Dark spots and age spots: what is the difference?

Both are caused by excess melanin, the skin's own pigment. They differ in their triggers:

  • Age spots: light to dark brown spots that appear from around 40 on areas exposed to the sun, especially the face, hands and décolleté. The main cause is years of UV exposure.
  • Sun spots: appear after intense sun exposure, even at a younger age.
  • Hormonal pigmentation (melasma): flat patches triggered by pregnancy, the pill or menopause.
  • Post-inflammatory marks: dark marks left by spots, irritation or aesthetic treatments.

What a cream for dark spots should do

  • Regulate pigment: brightening actives such as Beta-White reduce excess melanin production.
  • Protect with antioxidants: vitamin C and vitamin E defend against free radicals, which promote new spots.
  • Strengthen the barrier: nourishing oils and moisture keep the skin resilient.
  • Work together with sun protection: only with daily SPF 50 can spots fade lastingly.

Our creams for dark spots

  • Luminous Pearl Extreme: the brightening cream from the CEA line with Beta-White, Kombuchka and a complex of vitamins C, E and A. It evens out the complexion, helps prevent new pigmentation and gives dull skin new radiance.
  • Whitening Cream: the gentle brightening cream with Beta-White, MelaCare oil and shea butter. A cooling active and sea mayweed calm the skin, making it ideal for sensitive skin with dark spots.

Cream for age spots: what matters from 40 onwards

Age spots develop over years and are among the typical signs of skin ageing. A good cream for age spots combines brightening actives with antioxidants and consistent sun protection. The Luminous Pearl Extreme is particularly suitable for mature skin, as it also protects the skin against environmental stress. You will find more care for mature skin in our collections face cream for mature skin and anti-aging cream.

Frequently asked questions about creams for dark spots

  • Which cream helps against dark spots?
A cream with brightening actives such as Beta-White, combined with antioxidants such as vitamin C. The Luminous Pearl Extreme combines both. For sensitive skin, the Whitening Cream is the gentler choice.

The daily combination of a brightening serum, a cream for age spots and SPF 50. Age spots fade gradually; without sun protection, they return.
  • How quickly does a cream for dark spots work?
The skin renews itself in a cycle of around four weeks. First visible results usually appear after several weeks of regular use.
  • Can I use the cream during the day?
Yes, morning and evening. During the day, always apply SPF 50 on top, as UV light causes new dark spots.
  • Can a cream remove dark spots completely?
A cream visibly lightens and reduces dark spots. Very dark or long-standing spots often require a dermatological treatment such as laser. You will find suitable aftercare in our collection skincare after laser, peels & Botox.
