Peptides in skincare: what they do for your skin

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of collagen and elastin. In the skin, they act as messengers, sending signals that influence structure, firmness and moisture. Because the skin's own collagen production slows down over the years, peptides are now among the most important actives in modern peptide skincare. MBR mainly uses three groups:

  • Signal peptides such as Matrixyl and ChroNoline support the skin's natural collagen production and strengthen its structure.
  • Expression peptides such as Syn-Ake and SNAP-8 visibly soften expression lines such as forehead and frown lines.
  • Firming peptides such as Cyclopeptide-5 support the firmness and elasticity of the contour.

Peptide serum or peptide cream?

  • Peptide serum: high concentration of actives, light texture, absorbs quickly. Ideal as the intensive step after cleansing (TREAT).
  • Peptide cream: richer texture, protects the skin barrier and completes your routine (CLOSE).

Ideally, combine both: serum first, then cream. You will find more highly concentrated serums in our collection anti-aging serum.

How to use peptides correctly

  • Morning and evening on cleansed skin.
  • Order: cleansing (OPEN), peptide serum (TREAT), peptide cream (CLOSE).
  • Easy to combine with hyaluronic acid, ceramides and antioxidants.
  • Be patient: with regular use, visible results appear after a few weeks.
  • During the day: always finish with sun protection.

Frequently asked questions about peptides in skincare

  • What does a peptide serum do?
A peptide serum delivers peptides in high concentration. It supports the skin's own collagen production, visibly softens fine lines and improves firmness, for example the Cross Lift Serum Ultrapeptide.
  • At what age do peptides make sense?
From around your mid-twenties, collagen production gradually slows down. Peptides are useful from around 30 as prevention, and mature skin benefits in particular.
  • Are peptides an alternative to Botox?
Expression peptides such as Syn-Ake visibly soften expression lines, without injections. They do not replace an aesthetic treatment but are a gentle alternative for daily care, for example in the Liquid Surgery Serum. You will find targeted care in our collections Botox cream alternative and Botox serum alternative.
  • Can I combine peptides with vitamin C or retinol?
Yes. Peptides are considered very well tolerated. Apply strongly acidic products such as AHA peels at a different time from your peptide serum, for example one in the morning and one in the evening.
  • Peptide serum in the morning or evening?
Both. In the morning, peptides support the skin through the day. In the evening, they work during the skin's nightly regeneration phase.
